We came across an interesting piece this week where two social care experts have very different opinions on personal budgets, which allow individuals to decide how to spend their social care money.

At its heart personal budgets are an initiative the voluntary sector embraces. How can we not? Giving vulnerable people real control over how their support is provided is a great thing. Allowing individuals to express their wishes, aspirations and needs and giving them choice should eventually make the lives they lead better.

Service users are told in this article they are ineligible to receive a personal budget and that has made the initiative fraught with issues.
